This mango salsa is a fresh and crunchy fiesta appetizer! The recipe is truly simplistic: mango, tomato, onion, lime and fresh cilantro.
I read about this mango salsa some time ago.
And then immediately put it on my appetizers to make list for the upcoming birthday party for a mango loving birthday girl. I have to say that this one was by far the most popular appetizer salsa I have ever made!
Well I made much more than necessary so I would be able to save half of it for the day after. But then in the end I just decided to refill that salsa bowl during the party because everybody was asking for more.
So I guess it must have been a big hit!
Easy Mexican Style Mango Salsa Recipe
This recipe is so simple: it’s got mango, tomato, onion, lime and fresh cilantro.
No need to say that this salsa is just packed with flavor. I recommend to use a half ripe mango. That makes it easier to dice finely without ending up with a mushy salsa after cutting it up.
Besides that crunch is also important here, you need crunch!
Be careful with the seasoning.
The sweet and sour mango and lime flavor is crucial. If you add too much salt or chili, you will turn this appetizer into something inedible. The salsa has to marinate for a while so I suggest you adjust the flavors after that.
Appetizer or Topping
Serve this mango salsa with some (sesame) crackers or nachos. It makes a great appetizer!
Or how about use it as a topping for tacos!

Easy Mexican Style Mango Salsa Recipe
- 1 large fresh mango
- 5 cherry tomatoes
- 1 tbsp red onion chopped
- a handful fresh cilantro chopped
- 1 tbsp lemon juice or lime juice
- ½ tsp chili powder
- salt
-
Peel the mango and then cut the yellow flesh away from the stone in the center. Dice the mango flesh finely and add it to a large mixing bowl together with the chopped red onion. Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and deseed them. Slice or dice the tomatoes finely and also add them to the mixing bowl.
-
Stir well. Add the freshly chopped cilantro, half of the lemon (or lime) juice, a pinch of salt and half of the chili powder.
-
Stir the salsa well again. Check the taste and add extra salt, chili powder or lemon juice to taste if necessary. Cover the bowl. Let the salsa marinate at room temperature for at least 30 minutes so the flavor can develop. Stir regularly. Transfer the salsa to a large bowl and serve with crackers.
