Steamed ginger meatballs?
Sure!
Well here is a fun recipe to make soon!
And an easy one as well. This recipe consists of three basic steps: first make meatballs, then steam them and prepare the black pepper sauce as well.
Sounds simple, right!
Making Meatballs From Scratch
It is the first time that I knead minced meat in my KitchenAid Stand Mixer Mini and I am extremely flattered with the result I have to say!
The mince is well combined and not too soft in the end.
I still like a little texture in my meatballs, god forbid I would end up with mushy mousse like meatballs.
Don’t overdo things!
Easy Steamed Ginger Meatballs in Black Pepper Sauce
Kneading minced meat in the Stand Mixer Mini is also a very clean way of creating your own choice of flavored meat mixture without getting your hands all too dirty.
I didn’t add any wet ingredients this time but I can imagine that adding eggs and worcester sauce or hot sauce to your mince will be incorporated in no time without making a mess.
So here is my video of how I make these delicious steamed ginger meatballs in a hot black pepper sauce then, using my fabulous KitchenAid Stand Mixer Mini and my Cook Processor!

KitchenAid Spiralizer
One of the features of the KitchenAid Cook Processor that I use the most is the steam function because I love it to bits. Vegetable, fish, meat… you can also make steamed cake in it! I served the meatballs with carrot noodles that I also made with my awesome KitchenAid Spiralizer!
You must have heard of the spiralizer before!
Black Pepper Sauce
You can find black pepper sauce in jars in the Asian department of your supermarket.
Or in a Chinese grocery shop. I am using the leftover steam water in the sauce afterwards but you can also just add beef stock if you want.

- 1 ⅓ lbs ground beef (600 ), or pork mince
- 2- inch fresh ginger (5 cm), grated
- 4 tbsp black pepper sauce
- 2 cups water (480 ml)
- a handful fresh cilantro or mint, chopped
- garlic powder
- salt
1) Add the minced meat, grated ginger and a pinch of garlic powder salt to the bowl of your KitchenAid Stand Mixer. Attach the flat beater. Lower the mixer head. Select speed 3. Knead the mince for 3 minutes. Turn the speed off and tilt the motor head up. Then check the seasoning and add extra salt to taste. Remove the flat beater and roll the mince into meatballs.
2) Pour the water in the bowl of the KitchenAid Cook Processor. Place the raw meatballs in the large Steamer Basket and cover with the transparent lid. Place the Steamer Basket on top of the Cook Processor. Select STEAM P1 and adjust the cooking time to 20 minutes instead of 10 minutes. Press Start. Once the program is finished, turn the Cook Processor off and then remove the Steamer Basket: watch out, the steam is very hot! Pour the water that remains in the bowl in a small cup.
3) Rinse the Cook Processor bowl. Place the bowl back on the Cook Processor and add the StirAssist. Add the black pepper sauce and 4 tablespoons of the steamer liquid you kept aside. Add the steamed meatballs and close the lid. Turn the Cook Processor on and select BOIL P1. Then press Start to activate the program. Set the Speed to 2.
4) In the end turn the Cook Processor off and scoop the meatballs and black pepper sauce onto plates. Sprinkle with freshly chopped mint or cilantro. Serve with rice or noodles.
5) Chef’s Tip: you can use a bamboo steamer basket and prepare your black pepper sauce meatballs in a large saucepan if you don’t have a KitchenAid Cook Processor.

Hi Andy, interesting to know! I was in Penang for 5 weeks, loved the Nyonya cuisine. Hong Kong is my number one, for the food indeed but there’s something magical about this city and the islands. Another Asian city I’ve been to 3 times in Saigon, Vietnamese food is excellent and the best in the world I think! I was in Japan for 3 weeks last year. We were a bit disappointed in Tokyo but Kyoto and Osaka are amazing. I liked Shanghai as well but I do prefer Hong Kong though. Bangkok and Chiang Mai are also great to… Read more »
Hi Andy, no worries! Yes, I love Vietnamese ice coffee. Very refreshing in the heat! I loved the cincalok, I even took a bottle home with me. Did you try belacan in Malaysia? It’s a fermented shrimp paste. You have visited more Asian countries than I have so far! We loved Singapore too. We were there before they built the Marina Bay and the Sands hotel, but it’s definitely worth a visit. And the park behind it. Amok and loklak are delicious! We stayed in Kep for a couple of days, I’ve never eaten so much fresh crab in my… Read more »
